China has successfully developed its first compact accelerator mass spectrometer and the country’s first fully analog optoelectronic intelligent computing chip.
China's first compact accelerator mass spectrometer has been successfully developed.
The Institute of Nuclear Physics, China Institute of Atomic Energy has successfully developed China's first compact Accelerator Mass Spectrometer (AMS). Occupying around 30 square meters of floor space, the entire system is two-thirds smaller than conventional counterparts. This marks major progress in China's development of high-end nuclear analytical equipment and lays a solid foundation for high-sensitivity analytical applications of accelerator mass spectrometry.
Accelerator mass spectrometry is an essential technique for trace element testing, rare particle detection and analysis of trace long-lived isotopes, enabling highly sensitive measurement of ultra-trace nuclides. Thanks to its extensive applications in astrophysics, environmental evolution, marine resources, biomedicine and other sectors, downsizing and compact design of accelerator mass spectrometers have become a prominent research focus.
Focusing on the core challenge of accelerator compactification, the team carried out innovative research and achieved breakthroughs in a series of key technologies. The compact accelerator mass spectrometer they developed is merely one meter in length, one-third the size of conventional equipment, featuring a more compact structure, improved performance and multi-nuclide measuring capability. Meanwhile, the team optimized the system design from the perspectives of physics and beam optics to greatly improve cost-effectiveness. Up to now, the equipment’s transmission efficiency and detection sensitivity have been verified via experiments.
New breakthrough in optoelectronic integration: China's first fully analog optoelectronic intelligent chip
After long-term joint research, a research team from Tsinghua University has broken through the physical bottlenecks constraining conventional chips, innovatively proposed a brand-new optoelectronics-integrated computing architecture, and developed the world's first fully analog optoelectronic intelligent computing chip (dubbed ACCEL). Actual tests show that its computing power for intelligent visual target recognition exceeds that of mainstream high-performance commercial chips by over 3,000 times, blazing a new trail for the development of ultra-high-performance chips.
The 6th Henan Higher Education Expo will be held in Xinxiang.
The 6th Henan University Research Institute Sci-Tech Achievement Expo (hereinafter referred to as the Expo), sponsored by Henan Provincial Department of Science and Technology, Henan Provincial Department of Education, Henan Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and Xinxiang Municipal People's Government, will be held in Xinxiang from November 11 to 12. The event will fully showcase the achievements of Henan in implementing the innovation-driven development, science education-powered provincial growth and talent-driven development strategies, further boost the development of the Central Plains Agricultural Valley, and build a robust platform for agricultural sci-tech innovation, achievement commercialization, demonstration and promotion as well as foreign exchange and cooperation.

Since 2018, under the sound leadership of the Provincial Party Committee and Provincial Government, with strong support from the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Education as well as joint efforts from all relevant parties, Xinxiang has successfully hosted five editions of the Higher Education Expo. The events have attracted over 3,900 participants from more than 1,800 organizations, including three Nobel Prize laureates and other distinguished guests. More than 320 sci-tech cooperation projects were signed with a total investment exceeding 48 billion yuan, and nearly 85 percent of these projects have been effectively implemented and industrialized.
"As a key event showcasing Xinxiang’s strength in scientific and technological innovation and its opening-up progress, the Expo serves as a focal point to drive city-wide innovation across the board. It also builds a high-end platform for universities across Henan to commercialize research outcomes and creates channels to efficiently match innovative talents and sci-tech achievements with industrial demands," said an official with Xinxiang Municipal Government.
Going forward, the city will keep refining the event to build it into a renowned benchmark and iconic brand for Henan’s technological innovation and opening-up. In addition, follow-up work stemming from the Expo will be steadily advanced to fuel the economic and social development of Xinxiang and the whole province.
The 2023 World Sensors Summit kicks off in Zhengzhou.
The 2023 World Sensors Summit officially opened in Zhengzhou on November 5. Distinguished academicians, specialists and enterprise representatives from the sensor industry gathered to conduct in-depth discussions on cutting-edge technologies, industrial trends and hot-button issues in the field, share the latest advances in sensor-related science, industry and applications, and jointly advance high-quality development of the sensor sector.
Hosted by the People's Government of Henan Province and the China Association for Science and Technology, the conference is undertaken by the People's Government of Zhengzhou, Henan Provincial Department of Industry and Information Technology, Henan Provincial Association for Science and Technology and China Instrument and Control Society, with on-site implementation supported by organizations including the Federation of German-Chinese Friendship Associations and the Administrative Committee of Zhengzhou High-tech Zone.

Running for three days, the event takes "Sensing the World, Innovating the Intelligent Future" as its theme and consists of one summit, one contest and one exhibition. The summit refers to all supporting activities of the 2023 World Sensors Summit, covering the opening ceremony and keynote forum, ten sub-forums, production-marketing matchmaking sessions and China-EU sensor industry cooperation exchange meetings. The contest stands for the Sensor Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition. The exhibition is a sci-tech achievement exhibition hosted by the Zhengzhou Municipal Government alongside the summit.

The 2023 World Sensors Summit opens at Zhengzhou International Convention and Exhibition Center.
Sensors constitute one of the three foundational underlying technologies for the Internet of Things, underpinning the interconnection and intelligence of all things. They represent a core strategic supporting industry that fuels synergistic growth alongside chips and 5G technologies. In recent years, the CPC Zhengzhou Municipal Committee and Zhengzhou Municipal People's Government have attached great importance to the development of the sensor sector. The city has vigorously promoted the full industrial chain integration covering technological research, key R&D breakthroughs, technical application and commercialization of scientific achievements. It coordinates the coordinated development of chips, displays, networks, terminals, sensors and end-use scenarios to accelerate the construction of the Zhengzhou Intelligent Sensor Valley of China. Remarkable progress has been made in scaling up, upgrading and intelligent transformation of Zhengzhou’s local sensor industry.
It is reported that the World Sensors Summit has been held for five sessions, with 91 projects signed in total and a contracted investment exceeding 79 billion yuan. These projects cover gas sensing, pressure sensing, laser sensing and other sectors. By introducing a host of innovation platforms, sci-tech incubation programs and manufacturing projects, continuous efforts have been made in core sensor component R&D, industrial application and commercialization of research achievements. The initiative helps upgrade innovation in advantageous fields, shore up weaknesses in key industrial links and build and supplement industrial chains for cutting-edge sectors, injecting robust momentum into the high-quality development of the sensor industry.
