Engineered for high stability, precision temperature control, and contamination prevention. These units are critical for isolating forensic samples, extracting DNA, and conducting toxicology profiles with absolute accuracy.
In modern criminal investigations, physical evidence is the cornerstone of justice. Whether isolating DNA templates from minimal biological stains, identifying trace volatile poisons in toxicology panels, or separating micro-particles from environmental debris, the laboratory centrifuge is the unsung hero of the forensic laboratory. Without precise, reliable separation, downstream analyses such as Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR), Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS), and Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) would be impossible due to cellular debris and chemical interference.
Forensic laboratories operate under unique pressures. Unlike clinical diagnostics, forensic samples are often limited in quantity, degraded by environmental factors, and irreplaceable. A single drop of blood or a hair root recovered from a crime scene must be processed with zero margin for error. High-performance centrifuges ensure that target molecules are separated efficiently while preserving their structural integrity, directly influencing the accuracy of criminal profiling and court evidence.
Isolating genetic material from complex matrices like blood, saliva, bone fragments, and semen requires differential centrifugation to separate target cellular nuclei from other cellular constituents.
Analyzing blood, urine, or vitreous humor for illicit substances, alcohol, or toxins requires precise protein precipitation and solid-phase extraction steps facilitated by high-speed centrifugation.

The global forensic science market is undergoing a rapid technological transition. Driven by increases in crime rates, legal mandates for backlog reduction in DNA testing databases, and the standardization of international judicial protocols, public and private forensic laboratories are scaling up their infrastructure. Consequently, the demand for specialized lab centrifuges has surged. Modern forensic laboratories are no longer satisfied with general-purpose medical centrifuges; they require instruments designed with high capacity, precise temperature regulation (refrigeration), and integrated biosafety features.
A key industrial driver is the rigorous regulatory framework governing forensic operations, such as ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation. This standard mandates that all equipment used in testing must be calibrated, tracked, and capable of generating reproducible results. This has led to the adoption of "smart" centrifuges. Modern units incorporate microprocessors that log run parameters (speed, time, temperature, and acceleration/deceleration profiles) to maintain a digital chain of custody for processed samples. Manufacturers are integrating RFID-based rotor recognition and electronic lockouts to prevent user error, which could compromise valuable evidence.
Additionally, biosafety is a paramount concern in forensics. Investigators frequently handle samples containing bloodborne pathogens, infectious diseases, or hazardous chemical agents. Centrifuges equipped with aerosol-tight rotors, biocontainment lids, and automatic lid-removing mechanisms are crucial to protect laboratory technicians from exposure. The market is shifting towards automated, refrigerated systems that prevent thermal degradation of biological specimens during high-speed runs, ensuring that evidence remains viable for subsequent courtroom presentation.
We focus on four core domains: “Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS) and Lithography Technology,” “Optoelectronics and Spectroscopy Technology,” “High-Power Laser Application Technology,” and “Nuclear Instrumentation and Emergency Equipment Systems.”
Among these, MEMS and lithography technology support the independent R&D of high-end precision devices; optoelectronics and spectroscopy technology are widely applied in environmental monitoring and life science detection scenarios; high-power laser technology empowers industrial processing and scientific equipment upgrades; while nuclear instrumentation and emergency equipment provide critical support for public safety and nuclear governance.
Building upon this foundation, we have independently developed four scientific information platforms: the Cloud-based Intelligent Law Enforcement System, the Emergency Equipment Safety Assessment System, the Intelligent Water Quality IoT Platform, and the Environmental Protection Field Enforcement System. These platforms deeply serve diverse industrial scenarios globally, including market regulation, public safety, environmental monitoring, and scientific research production.

Centrifugation is a multi-step, critical workflow across various branches of forensic sciences. Below, we explore how specialized laboratory centrifuges are deployed in three distinct investigative scenarios.
In sexual assault investigations, evidence collection kits often contain a mixture of victim epithelial cells and suspect sperm cells. To isolate the suspect's DNA, forensic scientists employ differential centrifugation. By utilizing distinct spin speeds and lysis buffers, they selectively lyse the more fragile epithelial cells, pelleting the intact sperm cells at low speeds. The supernatant containing the victim's DNA is separated, and the sperm pellet is lysed subsequently. This sequential separation ensures clean, unmixed DNA profiles that are admissible as evidence in court.
Post-mortem blood samples are highly challenging to analyze. They are often partially coagulated, putrefied, or mixed with fatty tissues. To determine the presence of narcotics, pharmaceuticals, or lethal poisons, toxicologists use high-speed refrigerated centrifuges. Operating at speeds exceeding 15,000 RPM (revolutions per minute) under temperature-controlled conditions (typically 4°C), the centrifuge separates proteins, lipids, and cellular debris from the serum. The cold environment prevents the thermal degradation of volatile analytes, ensuring accurate quantification via mass spectrometry.
Trace evidence, such as soil particles, glass fragments, or gunshot residue (GSR) collected from a suspect's clothing, can place them at a specific crime scene. By setting up density gradients using heavy liquids (e.g., sodium polytungstate), forensic mineralogists spin trace samples in a centrifuge. The soil minerals or glass particles settle at specific gradient bands according to their precise density. This allows investigators to compare the density profile of the crime scene soil with the soil recovered from the suspect's shoes, providing strong circumstantial evidence.

As DNA sequencing technologies move toward single-cell genomics and rapid field testing, the demands placed on laboratory centrifuges are evolving. We are witnessing several key trends that will define the next decade of forensic separation equipment:
Future centrifuges will not only spin samples but will actively monitor sample health. Integrated optical sensors will analyze the turbidity of the supernatant in real-time, automatically stopping the run once optimal separation is achieved. IoT connectivity allows laboratory managers to monitor run parameters remotely, ensuring compliance with strict chain-of-custody protocols and receiving automated alerts for preventive maintenance.
With the rise of "Rapid DNA" technology, there is a push to move molecular analysis from the central laboratory to the field or mobile command centers. This requires ultra-compact, low-power, high-speed micro-centrifuges that can operate on battery power or vehicle electrical systems while maintaining the exact performance standards of benchtop laboratory units.
In response to emerging biological threats and highly potent synthetic drugs (such as fentanyl analogues), laboratory safety is being redesigned. Advanced centrifuges will feature hermetically sealed rotors with automated integrity checks. If a tube breaks during a high-speed run, the centrifuge will detect the imbalance, stop immediately, and maintain containment until safe decontamination procedures can be executed.
Environmental sustainability is becoming a priority for government-funded laboratories. Refrigerated centrifuges are transitioning toward natural, eco-friendly refrigerants with low global warming potential (GWP) and energy-efficient brushless motors. These systems reduce power consumption without compromising cooling rates or rotational stability.
